The Arkansas River is expected to crest at the Toad Suck Lock and Dam at approximately 1 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, according to the National Weather Service. The elevation of the crest is anticipated to be 277.5 feet.
Although there is a levee system built to protect people and property in such cases as this, residents in low lying areas should be aware and take precautions to protect themselves in the event of water rising in tributaries or a breach of a levee.
Attached is a map of the Arkansas River and its tributaries in Faulkner County, showing elevations below 280 feet in red. This is the area most likely to be affected by the incoming water. This flood is expected to be comparable to the water level of 2008.
